Jordi Palafox

Jordi Palafox, (Valencia, 1952)

BA and PhD in Economics from the University of Valencia, where is Professor of Economic History and Institutions. He has been a Research Professor at the Valencian Institute of Economic Research (Ivie) from 1991 to 1998, Visiting Scholar in the Department of Economics, UC Berkeley during the academic years 1986/87 and 1992/93 and Visiting Professor at the Universities of Copenhagen and Roskilde in Denmark and the  EHESS in Paris(2006/2007). Has been also main researcher in several Projects o f the Spanish National Research Plan.  In  recent years his research has been focused on the history of the Spanish economy during the Twentieth Century and the present Spanish Stock of Human Capital.

He has published the results of his research in several Academic Journals and given lectures and seminars at Universities in Spain, UK and the United States (among them La Jolla, Berkeley and Harvard). Is the author of Atraso Económico y Democracia. La Segunda República y la Economía Española y (Crítica, 1991) and co-author, among others books, of España 1808 1996. El desafío de la modernidad (Espasa Calpe, 1996).

He was Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Valencia, and  first director of the UIMP in Valencia since its founding in 1987 until 1989. Was member of the board of directors and the executive committee of Bancaja (1998-2006) from where he resigned in February 2006 over disagreements with management and strategic issues.
